Overview
This contract involved designing and installing signaling and communications systems for a 2.2-mile extension of SMART's rail system. The project included interim improvements to the Bettini Transit Center in San Rafael, a new station in Larkspur near the ferry terminal, four at-grade roadway crossings with signals and crossing equipment, refurbishment of one existing railroad trestle bridge, and replacement of two other bridges.
Scope of Work
Modern Railway Systems (MRS) was responsible for all systems design, installation, and testing to deliver a fully functional signal and Positive Train Control system using Enhanced Automatic Train Control (E-ATC). The team also provided all station communications to ensure comprehensive connectivity and integration with the existing rail network.
Impact
The project enhanced operational safety, reliability, and efficiency along the new extension. MRS’ systems enabled seamless train control and communication, supporting the safe and efficient operation of the expanded SMART rail corridor.
