Sugar House Streetcar
Connecting residents with a new streetcar system.
Connecting residents with a new streetcar system.
Overview
This project involved constructing a 2-mile streetcar system within an existing rail corridor, connecting to the operating north and south TRAX Light Rail lines. The new line extended east to a popular dining and shopping area, improving access for residents of the Sugar House neighborhood to the broader TRAX system.
Scope of Work
Modern Railway Systems (MRS) provided embedded track installation, 12 road crossings with train and traffic signals, 8 stations, a catenary system, and traction power substation infrastructure. The work ensured full integration with the existing TRAX network and supported safe, efficient operations along the new streetcar line.
Impact
The project enhanced local mobility, connecting neighborhoods to key destinations and the regional transit network. Modern track, signaling, and power systems improved operational reliability, safety, and accessibility for both passengers and the broader community.
