CapMetro PTC Implementation
Ensuring the commuter rail line met FRA standards.
Ensuring the commuter rail line met FRA standards.
This project involved the documentation, design, material procurement, installation, and testing required to implement an Enhanced Automatic Train Control (E-ATC) Positive Train Control system on Capital Metro’s commuter rail line. The system included 25 control points, 17 intermediate signal locations, 79 grade crossings, nine passenger stations, and 33 miles of new fiber optic backbone and network development.
Work
Modern Railway Systems (MRS) handled the installation and testing of all systems. The team upgraded and retrofitted the wayside signal system as well as ten DMUs and six locomotive onboard systems. MRS also developed a training program and trained Capital Metro representatives on the new E-ATC functionality.
Impact
This project helped improve the experience and modernize safety for passengers riding on the CapMetro tains, and ensured ease of use for Capital Metro employees utilizing the new functionality.
