Petaluma North Station Platform
Installing signaling systems to enhance safety in Petaluma.
Installing signaling systems to enhance safety in Petaluma.
Overview
This project involved furnishing, installing, and testing signal and crossing equipment to support a new station north of Petaluma. The completed work included 3 temporary point protection software switches, 4 new signal houses, modifications to signal houses at 20 additional locations, and 12 new pedestrian gates.
Scope of Work
The implementation was carefully phased to avoid disrupting existing rail operations. The temporary point protection software switches were strategically deployed and managed throughout each stage of construction to maintain safe and efficient operations. Every phase was coordinated with operational schedules to ensure continuity of service.
Modern Railway Systems (MRS) also completed a comprehensive 56-hour systems cutover, which included detailed testing and validation to confirm that all equipment was properly integrated and communicating across the network.
Impact
The upgrades modernized the corridor’s signal and crossing infrastructure, enhanced operational safety, and supported reliable service to the new station. The seamless cutover and phased delivery ensured that passengers and rail operations experienced minimal impact while the system transitioned to its updated configuration.
