McKalla Station

Overview
To meet Austin’s growing transit needs, this project involved designing and constructing a new CapMetro rail platform and double track, including storage capacity for two MetroRail vehicles. A side platform configuration with an event platform was developed to support large stadium crowds attending events at the adjacent Q2 Stadium, home of Austin’s Major League Soccer team.

Scope of Work
Modern Railway Systems (MRS) completed all required signal and Positive Train Control updates and integrations. This included installing communications fiber for both vital and non vital rings, dynamic message signs, emergency telephones, and security cameras, modernizing the system infrastructure to meet increased demand.

Impact
The improvements enhanced safety, flexibility, and operational efficiency, ensuring reliable service during major events and improving overall transit capacity for Austin’s rapidly growing population.
