Metra - Morgan Interlocking
Modern systems for one of America's iconic transit providers.
Modern systems for one of America's iconic transit providers.
Overview
This project supports Metra in retiring an outdated non vital communication system and replacing it with modern processors housed in a new non vital signal house. The work involves carefully decommissioning and removing legacy equipment that has been in service for decades, ensuring a smooth transition to the new system designed and furnished by Modern Railway Systems (MRS).
Scope of Work
The process includes dismantling old hardware, safely disposing of obsolete components, and meticulously planning the integration of new technology to avoid disruptions to existing rail operations. The new signal house will include a local control panel, a maintainer’s panel, and advanced technological features that the current system does not provide. MRS is also implementing track, signal, and switch indication visibility at the Metra Central Control Facility for the section of track between Chicago Union Station and the Morgan Interlocking.
Impact
These upgrades will significantly improve reliability, efficiency, and maintainability across the signal system. Centralized monitoring and real time visibility into track conditions and switch positions will enhance operational responsiveness, elevate system safety, and contribute to a more efficient rail network overall.
