Work
Modern Railway Systems (MRS) fully installed, tested, and commissioned the wayside signal and grade crossing warning systems for the Michigan Amtrak East ITCS Project. The work included 70 intermediate signals, 31 electric locks, and 200 grade crossing warning systems. MRS also implemented new controls and signals across 28 industrial sidings with circuits to protect derails and 17 complex interlockings. The communications scope included installing and integrating a dedicated fiber optic system and 31 radio transmission towers to enable continuous train-to-wayside communication.
Impact
This project enhanced the safety, reliability, and efficiency of one of the state's most important passenger rail corridors. By modernizing signaling, grade crossing warning systems, and communications infrastructure, the project supports safer operations for both rail and roadway users while improving train movement and operational flexibility.
