CATS South End Station
Improving safety for pedestrians.
Improving safety for pedestrians.
Overview
This project supports the expansion of light rail service in the South End neighborhood of Charlotte by adding a new station along the existing Blue Line. Modern Railway Systems (MRS) is delivering key systems and infrastructure upgrades to integrate the new station seamlessly into the active corridor while maintaining reliable operations.
Scope of Work
The scope includes furnishing and installing a new Station Communications Cabinet (SCC) along with communications devices to support passenger information, safety, and connectivity at the new station. MRS is also installing a new signal control house to support system operations and ensure proper coordination of train movements.
In addition, the project involves Overhead Catenary System (OCS) modifications to align with the new station layout, as well as the installation of a new universal crossover. This crossover will provide operational flexibility, allowing trains to move efficiently through the corridor during and after construction.
Impact
Once complete, the new station will enhance accessibility and connectivity within the South End corridor while supporting continued growth in the region. The addition of modern communications, signaling, and OCS infrastructure improves system reliability and operational flexibility.
