G Line
Updating a critical bus route in Los Angeles.
Updating a critical bus route in Los Angeles.
Overview
The LACMTA G Line (formerly the Orange Line) is the highest-ridership dedicated bus route in the San Fernando Valley, running from the North Hollywood B Line Station to the Chatsworth Metrolink Station and will connect to the future East San Fernando Valley Light Rail. The G Line BRT Improvements Project enhances the Bus Rapid Transit system by reducing travel times by an average of 29% and increasing capacity by approximately 39%, while introducing zero-emission buses (ZEB), making it one of the largest ZEB BRT routes in the country.
Scope of Work
During construction, bus operations continue via a detour while the project team builds a new aerial station at Van Nuys Boulevard and an overpass at Sepulveda Boulevard. Railroad-style four-quadrant crossing gates are designed and constructed at 13 intersections east of Van Nuys Boulevard, along with traffic signal upgrades at all other intersections along the G Line alignment. The project also includes three grade-separated bridges to further improve safety and efficiency.
Impact
The improvements enhance the overall efficiency, safety, and capacity of the G Line BRT system. By integrating advanced infrastructure and zero-emission technology, the project reduces travel times, supports sustainable transit options, and strengthens connectivity throughout the San Fernando Valley.
