The Federal Way Extension on the Sound Transit Link network is now officially complete. This nearly 8-mile addition to the 1 Line expands safe, efficient travel options between Seattle, Sea-Tac Airport, and Federal Way. The extension introduces three new stations at Kent Des Moines, Star Lake, and Federal Way Downtown, along with two new parking structures and an expanded parking facility in Federal Way.
Modern Railway Systems (MRS) delivered the communications, radio, and signal systems that power this major corridor expansion. MCS supported the project with engineering and commissioning services for the Communications Subsystems across three stations, three garages, and two ancillary buildings.
The project scope also included Traction Power Substations provided by partner MEC, Signal Bungalows supplied by MRS, and new Emergency Access Points and Trackway Intrusion Detection equipment installed along the wayside.
MRS extends its appreciation to all partners and team members who contributed to this effort. This milestone enhances safety, reliability, and accessibility for the communities who rely on Sound Transit’s growing network.
